Speaker: Firooz Aflatouni, University of Pennsylvania

Bio: Firooz Aflatouni received the Ph.D. degree from USC in 2011. He was a post-doctoral scholar at Caltech before joining UPenn in 2014, where he is an Assistant Professor. In 1999, he co-founded Pardis Bargh Inc., an inclined orbit satellite tracking system manufacturer, where he served as the CTO for 5 years. He received the ONR YIP and NASA ESI awards in 2019.

Abstract: Integrated electronic-photonic co-design can profoundly impact both fields resulting in advances in several areas such as communication, signal processing, metrology, imaging, and sensing. In this talk, examples of hybrid and monolithically integrated electronic-photonic systems for optical frequency synthesis, photonic assisted microwave near-field imaging, and low power laser stabilization and laser linewidth reduction will be presented.
