Bio: Yogesh Gianchandani is a Professor at U. Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a primary appointment in EECS and a courtesy appointment in ME. He serves as the Director for the Center for Wireless Integrated MicroSensing and Systems (wims2.org). Since 2016 he has also served as the CTO of Omniscent, Inc.

Abstract: An enduring challenge for microsystems technology has been the miniaturization of gas pumps. This talk will describe micropumps that exploit thermally driven non-viscous flow in microchannels. Being motionless, these pumps offer extraordinary reliability and can be used with micro-gas chromatographs for detecting volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, toluene, and xylene.
