Bio: Dr. Jeon has worked on the R&D and technology strategy area for the next generation networks during the most of his career in KT. Now as CTO, he is leading the Institute of Convergence Technology overseeing three major R&D centers in Infrastructure, Service and Convergence. The key focus of Institute’s R&D lies in 5G network and platform architecture, evolution plan, and cost effective technologies. He is also responsible for developing new services for consumer, energy and surveillance sectors, incorporating various technologies including AI for which KT is the most recognized player in Korea. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University and both MS and Ph. D in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from KAIST.
Abstract: This presentation will explore telecom operator business opportunities and essential technologies in the 5G era. The focus will be on 5G business use cases, key 5G technologies and their challenging aspects with respect to existing 4G/LTE. Specific topics to be discussed include motivations behind the new radio (i.e. 5G mobile) in telecom operator business and its up-and-coming use cases which will impact our daily lives and transform the way the entire enterprise business industry works (B2B, B2C, 5G Platform). To top it off, KT’s insights gained over the course of preparing and commercializing 5G services will be shared during the session. We will also look into what lies ahead in the next stage for discussion.
