Mayuran Saravanapavanantham selected as the Spring 2023 MTL Doctoral Dissertation Seminar speaker

June 12, 2023

At the end of each semester, the MTL Seminar Committee Chair, Luis Fernando Velásquez-García, asks the MTL Community to nominate a speaker for the MTL Doctoral Dissertation Seminar. Any MTL student who defended or will defend their Ph.D. thesis is eligible, and the nomination consists of a letter from an advisor describing the quality of the student's research and the strength of their presentation skills as well as a 200 word statement from the student describing the focus and impact of their research.

The MTL Seminar Committee was thrilled to award the Spring 2023 Doctoral Dissertation Seminar to Dr. Mayuran Saravanapavanantham for his PhD work on additive manufacturing towards electronically-active surfaces.

On June 1st, a day after receiving his Ph.D. degree at the EECS Advanced Degree ceremony, Mayuran presented the seminar, discussing his work on developing transferable large-area ultra-thin organic photovoltaics. He presented on the scalable manufacturing methods to fabricate these fully-printed devices, highlighted approaches to rapidly integrate them into the world around us, and touched upon the importance of developing rapidly deployable power-generation technologies to accelerate the adoption of renewable sources of energy.

During his Ph.D., Mayuran conducted his graduate research in Professor Vladimir Bulović's group, the Organic and Nanostructured Electronics Laboratory, in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). He holds a B.A.Sc. in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo, an S.M. and Ph.D. in EECS from MIT.

Congratulations, Mayuran!
