At the IEEE European Solid State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC) 2017 that took place in Leuven, Belgium in September, Priyanka Raina was given the Best Young Scientist Paper Award for her paper at ESSCIRC 2016 that took place in Lausanne (Switzerland) last year. Priyanka's 2016 ESSCIRC paper was titled "An Energy-Scalable Accelerator for Blind Image Deblurring," and was co-authored by Mehul Tikekar and Anantha Chandrakasan.
Priyanka is a PhD student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), and her research is carried out under the supervision of Prof. Anantha Chandrakasan in MIT's Microsystems Technology Laboratories and EECS. In her paper, Priyanka described an energy-scalable accelerator for image deblurring fabricated in a 40 nm CMOS technology. This chip achieves a 78× reduction in the blur kernel estimation time, and a 56× reduction in the total deblurring time of 1920 × 1080 images with respect to a CPU, and three orders of magnitude reduction in energy.
