Wenjie Lu has received the prestigious 2018 Roger A. Haken Best Student Paper Award at the plenary session of the 2019 International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM) that took place in San Francisco in early December. This award is given to the best student paper presented at the previous year's IEDM conference.

Wenjie’s paper at IEDM 2018 was titled "First Transistor Demonstration of Thermal Atomic Layer Etching: InGaAs FinFETs with sub-5 nm Fin-width Featuring in situ ALE-ALD." The research was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Jesús del Alamo and it was performed in collaboration with the group of Prof. Steven George at University of Colorado in Boulder. Other co-authors of the paper are Alon Vardi and Lisa Kong, from MIT, and Younghee Lee, Jessica Murdzek, and Jonas Gertsch from UC Boulder.

The IEDM Best Student Paper Award is an extremely competitive distinction that universities from all over the world vie for every year. Only one per year is given. Remarkably, this is the third Student Award received by an MTL student in the last 7 years. It speaks volumes about the culture of excellence and the extraordinary capabilities and dedication of our nanofabrication facilities and staff.

Wenjie Lu is now with Analog Devices Inc. in Boston.
