Professor Judy Hoyt Tribute

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of MIT Professor of Electrical Engineering Judy Hoyt. Judy passed away on August 6, 2023.

Judy Hoyt was a dedicated teacher and a great mentor to her students at MIT and earlier at Stanford. She was a pioneer in the development of one of the most consequential semiconductor technologies in modern electronics: the incorporation of lattice strain to enhance transistor performance. She was also a generous colleague that played a key role in the configuration and design of the MIT.nano building.

Judy loved music and the outdoors. In her earlier years, she was an avid cyclist.

She is survived by her brothers Robert and John, and her father George, as well as her longtime friends and colleagues Conor Rafferty and Dimitri Antoniadis.
